Cruises are becoming more and more popular. With technology making them more akin to large floating cites, the promise of entertainment to amuse all tastes and the ever changing scenery theyre more popular than ever. If youre unfamiliar with the etiquette expected on a cruise there are a few things you should know about.
Although theyre more accessible now, cruises still carry an air of opulence and class which demands a certain code of behaviour is observed. Whether youve found yourself a fantastic deal on a 5 star cruise for a fortnight or youre just spending a few nights staying closer to home there are a few things to remember. After youve booked your ticket youll probably be presented with an antennary of where and when the ship is due to dock as well as the onboard activities. At least some of the evening activities are likely to have a formal dress code which must be obeyed. Although youre likely to get at least one person argue that theyve paid their money are entitled to dress like Homer Simpson if they so choose, the majority of people in the room will have paid to enjoy a certain air of class that one expects on a cruise. You should be just as mindful of your outfit when youre visiting any foreign countries youre docked in. You must also consider the customs and tradition in any countries youre visiting on your luxury cruise. Muslim countries will require women dress respectively and stay completely covered when entering places of worship. Your passport will not entitle you to disrespect these traditions. Think very carefully about any slogans on your clothes. It might be the height of fashion back home but it could equally be offensive where you are. Its also likely to be advertising the fact youre a tourist and turn you into an easy target.
Whether youre cruising around the exotic Caribbean islands or youve indulged in a river cruise down the Danube, you will also be expected to show the same common courtesy in your behaviour too. As beautiful as your floating hotel is, it will soon become very small if you find your neighbours intolerable. Some people may prefer to get up early whilst on holiday to ensure theyre able to enjoy as much of their time as possible. At the same time some prefer to stay up late enjoying themselves and sleep in the next day. If either of these sounds likes you, try not to be too loud especially if your neighbour prefers the opposite approach to their holidays.
