Britain is famous for its popular seaside resorts which feature quirky postcards, stag and hen parties, convenience foods such as fish and chips and kiss-me-quick hats. In the previous couple of decades only the seaside towns of Blackpool and Brighton have held onto their visitor numbers as increasingly moreĀ  British families travel to hotter places for their yearly vacation. Nonetheless a couple of UK resorts seem to be trying to to regain their position in the British tourism industry. In the article below I examine Scarborough a popular seaside resort in England.

Scarborough is definitely the oldest seaside resort in the British Isles having been mentioned in a publication which was written in the 1660s, which wrote about the medicinal benefits of a nearby spa. The spa continues to be existence today and is found in South Bay. Now called the Scarborough Spa Complex it, not unlike other, similar, tourist attractions, has reinvented itself and today presents quite a lot of leisure services while also catering for weddings and company functions.

In many ways the town has cleverly managed to present itself as an excellent blend of the old and the new. Retaining lots of its Victorian seaside and spa appeal the town currently promotesĀ  itself as centre for the creative arts and digital industries. Increasingly old structures are being redesigned and brought bang up to date and, as an example, an old museum is today a specially designed area for artists. Enhancing this modern approach to tourism you can now have access to a free wi-fi Web connection all along the harbour’s promenade.

Altogether this rather daring approach has helped to create a wonderful destination from a family focused vacation with loads of tourist attractions which are family friendly including lots of fascination galleries and museums, parks and gardens, theme parks and a fair selection of historic buildings. With a breath-taking coastline and fantastic countryside it’s little surprise that the seaside town also presents plenty of opportunities for sports activities and the sport of surfing is rapidly rising in popularity.
