A Brief Guide to Birmingham
Birmingham Cathedral (St Philip)
While London is the UKs well known capital Birmingham is the lesser known second largest city in the country. As the cultural center of the West Midlands Birmingham offers visitors and enormous range of entertainment and activities. Without doubt, Birmingham is a city not to be missed if you are taking a touring vacation in the UK.
Here are just a handful of the attractions that Birmingham has to offer:
Birmingham Cathedral: This is one of the cityss most beautiful historic buildings. The cathedral was built in 1725 and it houses four beautiful Pre-Raphaelite stained-glass windows.
The Royal Air Force Museum: The museum is home to a fantastic collection of aviation history. Over seventy aircraft housed in three separate wartime hangars. Youll see Spitfires, Hurricanes, Vulcans and more. Highly recommended!
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery: Witness a huge variety of exhibits that range from spooky Egyptian mummies to a wooden toy collection for the kids. Treat yourself to some culture and examine the largest collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings in the world.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens: A beautiful fifteen acres of breathtaking gardens available for exploration, as well as four glasshouses containing exotic plants.
And if you are touring with your family there is no shortage of places to visit for some fantastic days out. Here are a few suggestions:
Second City Canal Cruises: This is great fun. I can strongly recommend a canal boat cruise which is what I did with my family last year.
The National Sea Life Centre: There are in excess of sixty rare maritime species on display in this National center.
Newbrook Farm Experience: This is great for animal lovers. Many rare and ancient breeds can be seen here.
Woodgate Valley Country Park: This beautiful park is ideal for those who like to walk in the countryside. And there is an excellent farm with a play area and a fun pony-trekking centre, ideal for the children.
These are just a handful of the attractions that Birmingham has to offer. Ive visited all of these when touring the Midlands with my family and I can strongly recommend that you visit them all.
