Economy Flights to Gain Executive Club Incentives

British Airways A320

It has been revealed that after noting considerable demand from economy fliers, British Airways is to extend their Executive Club to allow those utilising discount economy seats to gain points. Applying to both long and short haul flights, members will now be able to accumulate the points needed to move up BA's loyalty program ranks.

Making the changes to their program, which includes three ranks of blue, silver and gold, BA's Executive Club changes come after members in a trial noted that a review of such a regulation was at the top of their wish list. Allowing flyers to now gain points even when using discounted economy seats the reviews to the scheme mean that members of both the Silver and Gold Executive Club will find it easier to keep their status and continue enjoying access to lounges around the world, including those at London's Heathrow'sTerminal 5.

The changes mean that short haul travellers with Euro Traveller will collect five points whilst their long haul counterparts will gain 15 tier points, helping members climb the ranks to silver and gold which need 600 points and 1500 points respectively. Meanwhile BA also revealed other changes to the club allow for blue members to rise to silver status by taking 50 flights. Elsewhere gold members can now claim any date, route or cabin for twice that of the standard redemption rate as long as 30 days booking notice is provided.

Regular travellers with BA will welcome such news. Whilst some may have not joined the scheme due to the lack of point collection on lower cost fares, the ability to gain rewards on every flight taken is also likely to increase the number of individuals investing in such a scheme.
